New Year, New Perspective

As we resolve this New Year to be more active, more disciplined, more appreciative, more… resist the tendency to fall into those same old patterns of deprivation, restrictions and regimens that even the most divine individual could never adhere to.

Let’s face it most of us begin the new year with high hopes and high spirits only to become disappointed and ultimately fall back into the same patterns or habits as before. With a shift in perspective and some simple tips this year can be different.

By shifting your perspective and having fun creating new habits instead of struggling to change the old ones your mind will begin to adjust and accept the changes without feelings of resentment or deprivation.

First realize it takes time to create a habit- good or bad. It’s not going to happen in a month or two give yourself the whole year. Start with a clear plan outlined with small steps to take throughout the year to reach your goal.

Think outside the box while creating your plan. If you want to lose weight don’t start with strict diets or joining a gym. Kick it off with a “cooking” class in raw foods or a pole dancing class. The key is to find an activity that brings a smile to your face not a grimace.

Each step should build upon the other until you reach your goal. When one step becomes familiar or easy you know its time to take the next step- from incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your lifestyle through the preparation of raw foods to growing your own herbs to make special teas to reduce the number of sodas you drink.

With careful planning, written goals and small steps you can create new habits that will lead to a healthier, happier and more joyous you in the New Year.
