Expression of Love

In February we have one day set aside to celebrate love. This day is reserved to express our deep affection, love and devotion for family and friends- those people in our lives that bring joy to our hearts, a smile to our face, and a spring to our step.

Love whether it is exciting and new or tame and routine is essential to overall health and wellbeing. Researchers have conducted many studies on the effects of expressing love and affection for others.

Writing love notes can reduce cholesterol levels (2007 issue 33 of Human Communication Research), showing care and concern for others slows the aging process (HeartMathInstitute), reduces pain and strengthens the immune system (The Institute for the Advancement of Health) and hugging can help the heart by lowering blood pressure and cortisol levels (University of NC, July/August 2005 issue of Psychosomatic Medicine).

The fullest expression can often be accomplished with the simplest touch- an uplifting smile, a helping hand, or a yoga adjustment. So this Valentines day show your love by expressing your love. Think outside the heart shaped box, forget about the flowers and chocolate, and give the gift of love, health and happiness.
